Crossing is one of the most frequently used methods to score a goal in FIFA 11. It is useful to know how to defend these crosses properly, especially when playing in the online arena because competition is stiffer there. Crosses can come from the flanks or from corner kicks. There is no 100 percent fool-proof way to defend against corners and crosses, but there are ways in which you can make it more difficult for the opposition to score in these circumstances. Let us tell you more on FIFA 11 tournaments online.
One way I like to stop the team I am playing against from whipping in dangerous balls is by closely manning the player in the wide areas who is about to cross. By sticking with him, you will make it less comfortable for him to cross and as a result his crosses will be less accurate. This increases the likelihood of your players getting their heads to the ball first and clearing it away.
Jockey him for the ball and make sure that if he does get the cross in it will not be without a lot of effort on his part. This should make it easier for one of your players to get his head to the ball and clear it away from danger.
Another way, in which you can defend a cross that is already coming in, is by taking control of one of the players inside the danger area. You should then be on the lookout for an "X" sign which will be placed on the field indicating where the ball will land. You should move towards this sign and then when the ball is about to land, press the shoot button so that the defender clears the ball.
When playing in a FIFA 11 tournament you may find yourself having to compete in a penalty shootout in a game where there has to be a winner. It is useful therefore, for one to know how taking penalties in the online arena is different from taking penalties in the offline arena.
Another method of defending a cross ball is by taking control of a player in the 18 yard area and then when the ball is being crossed by the opposition player you should be on the lookout for an "X" mark on the pitch. This should indicate where the ball is going to hit the ground. You should be in close proximity to this mark and when the ball is about to land there, you should be prepared to clear it away by using the shoot button.
In online play there is a network latency lag. This means that there will be a delay in the button press response. Put differently, taking a penalty in offline play is very different to taking a penalty in Internet play.
In other words, taking a spot kick in offline mode is different from taking a spot kick in online mode. You should be aware of this and so, when the indicator speed is set to "normal", whilst in Internet mode, you should aim to press the shoot button when the indicator is in the red and orange area on the right hand side of the screen. In order for you to take a good penalty kick the indicator must land in the green area and it should if you press the shoot button quite early.

Passing Can Be Integral To Succeeding In A FIFA 11 PS3 Tournament
A FIFA 11 PS3 tournament will be a tough thing to win with many players devoting vast lengths of time to improving at the game. The best place to start to develop your own skill is in the FIFA 11 training pitch. To win, you need to get very good at the basics; What are the basics? Well passing, shooting and tackling. This may sound very elementary but with FIFA 11 there are a number of ways in which you can perform all of the basics, for example with passing you can pass short, pass long, switch the play, play a one two, etc.
The easiest pass to play is the short pass which can be achieved by pressing and holding the X button and the Left stick in the direction in which you wish the ball to be played. The longer the X button is held the harder the pass will be played. The practice mode provided in FIFA is an excellent place to learn to play the short pass between team mates.
The long pass in FIFA 11 can be used to quickly counter attack your opposition, this is particularly effective if you have fast strikers, the long pass can be performed by holding the O button and again holding the LS in the direction you wish to play the ball. This is also the way to switch the play however you need to hold the LS up or down depending on your position. The long pass is slightly harder to master and again I would advise practicing this on the training pitch.
One of the best balls for creating one-on-one chances is the through ball, this can be played by pressing the triangle button. Again holding the button for increasing amounts of time increases the power with which the pass is played. 1-on-1's can be tricky to master as balls need to be played in time with the run o a team mate again I suggest practicing on the training pitch to become familiar with off the ball runs and being able to spot them.
Once through balls have been mastered you should look to start to play one-twos, this type of pass creates more off the ball runs from your players and as such makes them difficult to mark and potentially get into more goalscoring positions. To play a one-two hold the L1 button whilst playing a normal pass, the passer will then make a forward run. When the passer has found space play the ball back to him by performing a simple pass again, or if in an advanced position you could play the a through ball instead.
The next level to the one-two is to play a lobbed through ball instead of the normal pass or through ball. This can be done by holding the R1 button whilst playing a through ball, instead of playing the ball along the ground to the player the ball will be lobbed into his pass for him to run onto. This is by far the best way in FIFA to create goalscoring opportunities, master this pass and you will have the beating of most online players.
The training mode in FIFA 11 is the easiest way to practice the skills you need to learn quickly, playing against the AI will also help once you start to get a feel for the game. Make sure you can perform every pass without thinking as this will ensure you are less predictable to your opponent and can attack him wherever he is weakest.
The best tips to win a FIFA 11 PS3 tournament is to practice, practice, practice and ensure you can perform the basics well, in reality a team that can do the basics will often defeat a team who perform a vast array of party tricks. Barcelona are a prime example despite every player being able to perform every ball skill under the sun, they keep it simple and pass the ball. In FIFA 11 the game is the same keep the ball and wait for your opponent to get out of position and vulnerable.
The Fifa 11 PS3 tournament is pretty cool. We would like to tell you more about the Fifa 11 PS3 tournaments right now - we believe you, as a gamer and sports fan will love it.
